Pastor Selection Process

ray-tami-randy-2026-05-17.jpgRay, Tami, and Randy comprise Northwood's newly formed Pastor Nominating Committee. They thank the congregation for entrusting them to select Northwood's next permanent pastor. They have begun meeting, and are confident that God will provide the right candidate at the right time. They will inform us of their progress from time to time, but not confidential information. Please go to the July 2026 Newsletter to keep a few things in mind. Finally, the PNC asks for our patience and prayers because the process will be long, slow, and deliberate.

Members and friends of Northwood recently completed a Mission Study Survey. We reviewed the draft report (March 28) before sending it to the Presbytery and Session for their approval.

Here are some questions that we pursued at the conclusion of a recent all-church event (October 18):

  1. We typically think that the church’s calling is to promote belief in God and in the moral teachings of Jesus Christ.
  2. What if instead we imagined that God had a mission to “reconcile the world… in Christ” [2 Corinthians 5:19] and that each community of faith were called to participate in that mission?
  3. What if God’s original blessing to Abram was our blessing? That is, “and I will bless you… so that you will be a blessing…” [Genesis 12:2]
  4. How might these changes in orientation affect our intentions and plans for Northwood Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington?

Northwood’s Next Step Workshop will be Saturday, October 18 from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. You’re invited to a ‘dreaming session’ when we’ll discuss past, present, and future of ministry at Northwood Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington. This conversation is open to all members, friends, and curious, well-meaning bystanders of the congregation. Interim Pastor Scott Kinder-Pyle will facilitate the event. If you plan to attend, then you should prepare by praying through Mark’s Gospel, Chapter 4 verses 3-8.

Tentative schedule is:

  • Gathering in Fellowship Hall with Introductory Remarks on Mark 4:3-8
  • The Most Up-Lifting Experiences in Church?
  • Prayers of Spiritual Discernment & Hope in Christ
  • Lunch (maybe pizza!) - Continuing Discussion
  • Exercises: Imagine We’re in Prison & The Crystal Ball
  • This Church’s Highest Calling
  • Sending Songs & Prayers

----------

The Session of Northwood Presbyterian Church is presently forming a Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC), which will call the next pastor for Northwood Presbyterian Church. Any active member of Northwood Presbyterian Church can participate on this committee. You do not need to be a “voting member” of the congregation, or on the PNC for your voice to be heard regarding our next pastor. If you are interested joining this committee, then please contact any member of the session. We need input from the entire congregation regarding what they want with a new full-time pastor. Once the PNC has been formed, the committee will actively solicit input from all of Northwood regarding our next pastor. Please pray for the committee and our church regarding this process.
